Mission and History

Mission
PSEA is an all-volunteer membership organization whose goal is to promote the rapid adoption of solar energy technologies in the Delaware Valley through distinguished guest lectures, hands on demonstrations, participation in regional and national conferences, and other methods and activities.  Our organization's primary activity is the annual Junior Solar Sprint Race, in which area youth design and construct solar race cars for a competition held in May of each year.  Additionally, we want to educate the public about Pennsylvania's Solar Incentive Programs.  This education about the incentives is particularly important because electric utility rates soar after the final phase of deregulation is completed in the year 2010.

History
PSEA was founded over 25 years ago, and despite cyclical interest in solar energy over the years, has carried on through the leadership efforts of a few dedicated individuals. PSEA currently has more than 100
members and is seeking to grow its membership so that 1) it can have a stronger voice in public policy formulation,  2) it can better grow the local solar industry in the way that develops green jobs and promotes economic growth, and 3) it can promote rapid adoption of solar energy in our region to reduce our collective carbon footprint, improve energy security, and move toward energy independence.
