Tackling the PJM Electricity Cost Crisis
PJM is the Independent System Operator (ISO) for our electric grid. PJM is the largest ISO in nation, covering all or part of 13 states. PJM is responsible for ensuring that our region has affordable, reliable electricity supply. Unfortunately, PJM has not managed the interconnection of new generation resources well in recent years.
To see the extent of the crisis take a look at this interactive map showing how many projects are queued up waiting for PJM to act.
Fully 80% of the resources stuck in the PJM queue are solar or wind. Clearing the queue is the fastest, cheapest and cleanest way to meet our region’s energy needs without breaking customers’ budgets. Many of the generation applications in the queue have been waiting for more than 5 years already!
Evergreen Action just issued a report, Tackling the PJM Electricity Cost Crisis, which analyzes these issues and recommends the best path forward.
